Whether you’re a kid about to embark on one of these adventures or a parent, you probably have some questions. We hope this FAQ answers them. If not, you can always contact us directly!
Parent’s Questions
Each year we book several different trips so that there’s always something for everyone. Our annual trips include Yellowstone, Zion, and Alaska.
Our trips are designed for children who likely would not otherwise have the chance to experience these amazing adventures. We can do this thanks to household income-based grant money that’s available for parents to apply for.
Each trip lasts 6–8 days.
Yes! We have one chaperone for every four children, so you can come along in that role. You will need to submit to a full background check. Because we rely on limited grants and donations, those funds are for the kids. Parents/chaperones must cover their own expenses.
Unfortunately, that’s not an option, as we have to keep the group safely together until we’re back home.
Yes, they are co-ed. The children are housed based on gender.
Cell service is very limited inside the national parks. However, we do carry a satellite phone for emergencies. When we do have cell service or wifi, we try to post daily activities on social media so that you can see all the fun your child is having with us.
We do have a requirement for particular documents and will need you to submit a full application package including:
- Child’s ID for kids 16 and over, or parent’s ID for kids 15 and under
- Copies of all medical insurance cards
- Letters of reference for each child
We emphasize unity and teamwork, so we do everything together throughout our program.
Not a problem! We can work through any dietary needs that your child may have.
No. We don’t have or require any religious components or elements during our trips.
All medical needs are discussed with parents and chaperones as needed prior to the trip. There may be some limitations or issues in certain cases if a child’s medicine has to be refrigerated.
Yes. Our trip leader is certified in first aid and CPR.
The safety of every child is our top priority. We work closely with the national park service and carry medical emergency supplies with us at all times.
We maintain a balance of having 4 children to 1 chaperone, plus at least one adult guide.
Kid’s Questions
Each year we take trips to: Yellowstone, Zion, and Alaskan National Parks. We hope you’ll join us!
That might be possible. Get in touch with us, and let’s talk. We can walk you and your friend through the process so you can both apply.
Our program has anywhere between 8 to 12 kids.
While we’re sure you and your brother are both bound to make tons of new friends and have loads of fun, we’re always together as one group.
We have tons of group activities and ice-breakers, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to meet your travel buddies!
Kids from from 4th grade to 12th grade can go on these trips.
Generally, we enjoy going for a hike, swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking. There are also plenty of opportunities to learn about geology, wildlife, geothermals, marine life, and history! Additional activities are largely dependent on where we go.
Standard breakfast food is how we generally start the days, followed by packed picnic-style lunches at midday and team-cooked dinners in the evening. We pre-order all of our food from the grocery store prior to arrival, taking into account individual dietary needs.
Yes. We don’t take away cell phones. Use them to take as many photos as you want. However, service is going to be very limited. Don’t come assuming you’ll be spending all day texting your friends back home.
Yes!
We encourage you to pack all the standard clothes and toiletries. In addition, we provide a unique pack list for each trip.
That depends on where we are staying on any given day. Many places provide electricity, but not all of them.
Showers will be available. Blow drying your hair will be possible in the the locations where we have electricity.
There are no pools, but there’s a chance to take a dip in most of the places we go. Splashing around in nature’s waters is better than those “concrete ponds” anyway!
Certainly. Let’s talk about that to be sure we meet all your school requirements ahead of the trip!
In Yellowstone and Zion national park, there will be access to a store. When there are girls attending, we will always have a female chaperone carrying extra supplies as well.
