Alaska Itinerary
We will meet at 10:00 AM, and make the 2.5-hour beautiful drive down to Seward. Once we arrive in Seward, we will spend the afternoon with actual Iditarod dogs (sled dogs). We will see a dog demonstration / training exercise, have a sled dog ride, learn about sled dog races, meet the dogs, and maybe, if we are lucky, get cuddles with the next generation of racing puppies!
We board our cruise ship! Our 8.5 Hour Northwestern Fjord Cruise travels farther into Kenai Fjords National Park than any other cruise. Ideal for photographers, birders, and whale-watching enthusiasts, this adventure cruise explores the remote, untouched area of Northwestern Fjord in Kenai Fjords National Park. This cruise travels with a smaller group for a more intimate cruising experience, providing the best opportunity for up-close views of wildlife, including humpback whales, orca whales, Steller sea lions, harbor seals, seabirds, otters, and more. The 8.5 hours spent on the water will fly by as the captain seeks out the best wildlife-viewing in the area. You will spend time in front of the impressive Northwestern Glacier, an actively-calving tidewater glacier. A complimentary light breakfast and hearty deli lunch is included.
Today we leave on an “adventure of a lifetime”–3 days in the backcountry of Alaska in the heart of Kenai Fjords National Park!
On our first morning, we will meet our water taxi and our local kayak guide. Our boat ride will take about 2 hours to Aialik Bay. Leaving early in the morning, we will have plenty of time to explore that afternoon.
We will explore the Holgate Glacier, Aialik Glacier, and Pederson Lagoon area where we see the magnificent, calving events, icebergs, pupping harbor seals, bears, hundreds of different kinds of sea birds, and more. Every evening after a community meal, we can take in the breathtaking beauty of the fjords and wildlife all around us. We will enjoy discussing the area and its natural history, the goals for the next day, and just relaxing! Our camp is always close enough to the ocean to hear the sound of gentle waves lapping the shore, as the unique sounds of the glacier-calving will guide your sleep. This will be 3 days and 2 nights you will never forget!
On our last day in the backcountry, we will not get picked up until late in the afternoon. We should arrive back to Seward by dinner time.

After we check out of our hotel we will start heading back to Anchorage. There are several things we can do today. We can stop in Coopers Landing to do a short hike and look for spawning salmon (and if we get really lucky maybe a bear). There is a wildlife preserve (extra fee of I believe $30 per person), we can hike Table Top mountain overlooking Cook Inlet and Anchorage (great chance to see a moose), or we can go into Anchorage for some shopping and museums. Either way, we can go out that evening to have our final group dinner and drinks. Staying at a local downtown Anchorage hotel within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and bars.
We will check out of the hotel, and drive to Anchorage Airport. You will be dropped off at the airport by 10:00AM. (Please make sure your return flight is not prior to noon.)
Breakfast not included.
